Ingredients
- 4 bratwurst sausages
- 1 cup Tampico Apple Fruit Punch Buy Now
- 1 cup apple cider
- 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 4 bratwurst rolls
- 2 Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
- 1/2 cup Tampico Apple Punch
- 2 tablespoons white vinegar
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- Pinch of salt
Directions
- In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the thinly sliced onions and minced garlic. Sauté until the onions become soft and translucent, about 5 minutes.
- Push the onions and garlic to the sides of the skillet, creating space in the center. Place the bratwurst sausages in the center of the skillet and cook for about 5 minutes, turning occasionally, until they are browned on all sides.
- Pour in the apple fruit punch and apple cider, and season with salt and pepper. Bring the liquid to a simmer.
- Reduce the heat to low, cover the skillet, and let the brats simmer in the liquid for about 15-20 minutes, or until they are cooked through and have absorbed the apple flavors. Keep an eye on the liquid level and add more apple cider if needed.
- While the brats are simmering, prepare the sour apple topping.
- In a separate saucepan, combine the sliced Granny Smith apples, apple fruit punch, white vinegar, brown sugar, ground cinnamon, and a pinch of salt.
- Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat. Cook for about 8-10 minutes, or until the apples are tender and the liquid has reduced to a syrupy consistency.
- Toast the bratwurst rolls until they are lightly browned.
- Place a cooked bratwurst sausage in each roll.
- Spoon the sour apple topping over the brats.
- Serve your Sour Apple Brats with extra topping on the side and enjoy!
